We shared some photos last year showing what a cavity looks like and received some great feedback. It also seems to be a question everyone is asked when your at the dentist or when you tell someone you’ve had your six-month teeth cleaning… did you have a cavity?! So, we thought we would do another look “inside” a cavity.
A Cavity Between Front Teeth
This is what a cavity looks like in-between your upper front two teeth. To repair the cavity, the fillings are actually completed from the tongue-side of your teeth. This picture also shows the chalky-white damaged enamel (blue arrow) and the brown decay as it goes through the enamel and into the dentin of the tooth (red arrow).
Cavity Fully Removed
This next photo shows what it looks like after the cavity has been fully removed. All of the unhealthy and damaged tooth structure is completely removed. Then a tooth colored bonded filling is placed to restore the missing tooth structure.
